Statement of Intent

Statement of Intent

My show will be a spy show which contains similar narrative to others in its category i.e. Luther. My main character will be a young adult male, 18-21, who is of a similar age to my targeted audience.  Although intertextual links will form a key part of my opening sequence, I intend to take small ideas and tones from pieces I have studied and create a unique style of production and utilize the techniques more than anything else. My first shot will be following my main character around, as they do throughout the film 1917, which I think will be very interesting and add an element of reality to my opening sequence. For my titles, I liked the short, sharp title sequences in which the name comes in and out within a 5-10 second time frame. My main inspiration for these was those of Black Mirror and Riverdale. This is mainly since there is a 3-minute time limit and I hoped to squeeze as much narrative in as possible whilst still having a professional looking title scene.

My piece is what I would consider perfect “fun loving, 16-25-year old's” as it will include a few comedic moments, mainly displayed by Tavis (a gay bodyguard) who one of my character types to fit the brief. I will also have a Spanish alpha female represent the other character type and expand my diversity. Since the show is being aired on a Monday, the comedy is essential as the audience will likely be finishing up a day of university or work and it also is pre watershed as it will have no explicit language.

will use intertextuality within mise en scene as I have chosen the main location to be Westminster (Southbank). The Thames and the Westminster bridge, as well as the London Eye and Houses of Parliament have featured in countless films and Tv shows and will be crucial in increasing the appeal in my show. I will also use a location near me (The Memorial Park, Wickford) to film the pre title sequence as it is simple and there are many good, photogenic areas to shoot. The editing will also be full of fast paced cuts to emphasize the drama within the scenes to match the conventions required to meet the specification.

The ideology is to spread the message that if you can count on anyone, it is your family, and they will always stand by you even if it seems like they won’t.

The website will contain a playable video of the opening sequence I created to “give the audience a taste” and I may include a short blooper reel too for added audiovisual functionality. My design is simplistic but striking as I stick to a red, black and white theme, obtained from the logo of my show. I will also include another tab to feature the characters with their backstories so the audience can get to grips with the characters a bit quicker.

Branding is important to companies as it allows them to be convergent across platforms. For me to do this, I will have to link my show, the website and social media that may be present. I will link my social media on my website and hopefully have a scannable QR code in the show that links to the website, if not, I will make the website easily distinguishable, so it is easy to link. Social media will be used for promoting new episodes and the website will act as a hub for my show.
